About Us? Who cares about us! If you want to know about us, take a look at the labels and bands we represent, and what we have to say about 'em. We love our music. The Bank Robber knows what it's like to be on tour with no money. We like to see musicians get their due, and their music get its. Is this charity work? Nah, but if a license helps a drummer buy new sticks, or a songwriter pass on a week of crappy temp work, then we've done our job.
So what makes the Bank Robber so mercenary? Lyle Hysen got his start putting out a fanzine in high school, then drummed in a "punk" band called the Misguided. He was also the drummer for the band Das Damen.
After a short stint in management, Lyle was brought in at Matador to help run their publishing company (Doormat). That led to a newfound interest in music placement and a 10-year relationship with Matador (including two with the Beggars Group). The infatuation with licensing obviously endures.
Hartley Goldstein is the Bank Robber's wordsmith. He cut his writing "chops" at Pitchfork, where he likely slammed many of your favorite records. Hartley has a deadly one-two punch - his thoughtful turns of phrase could sell shoes to a dead man, and, as musician in his own right, Hartley can write a chorus you'll never forget.
Gandhar Savur also got his start in the Matador Records tv/film department. Involved with Bank Robber since its inception, Gandhar officially came on full time at the start of 2006. Gandhar handles business affairs and legal disengagement, and helps with song pitching for skateboarding and surf related projects. Gandhar also co-manages the record label Ernest Jenning Record Co.
