Mumblebore: The New Talkies

Let me be the first to officially get all b-side about this "Mumblecore" bullshit I keep reading about. What is Mumblecore you ask? Well according to this weekend's NY Time's Arts and Leisure section, it's the latest craze in hipster filmaking - I call it the brainchild of uber-dork, Harvard-grad writer director, Andrew Bujalski. As if there weren't outlets for fetishizing pale faced, conflicted, over-educted, Ivy League grads, now there's an entire film genre dedicated to it. Of course, Cassevettes name gets dragged into the whole thing...Of course, half these kids all live in Brooklyn (which as a genuine NYC-raised Upper West Sider makes my fucking eyes roll). The way the press is treating Mumblecore stalwarts like "Funny Ha Ha" and "The Puffy Chair," it's like subtext didn't exist until Sufjan Stevens recorded "Minnesota."

Anyhoo, if you want to watch a bunch of plotless films about how awkward relationships are (are these kids serious!?), the IFC Center is having a Mumblecore filmfest starting tomorrow.

Good thing some of the dudes in this scene make better music. Here's a new Bishop Allen track:
