JENS LEKMAN: THE NEXT KANYE WEST

Woody Allen. Jonathan Richman. And apparently, Alan Alda too. These are the apparent "influences" of Jens Lekamn. It's no wonder I love the guy so much. If he wasn't Swedish, he'd be a Jew from New York. Self-depricating, and dour, depressive, and more than a bit too sweet, earnest, and playful, and one hell of a producer - I might dub him the "Kanye West of Kortedala" - if Lekman wasn't such a white boy. But look, his latest and greatest, Night Falls Over Kortedala, is brimming with chopped retro soul samples, heady string swells, crooning, and bongos. Lots of f'ing bongos. He also switches up the snare drum sound each bar like Kanye. And, like Kanye he writes, produces, records, and performs everything he does. If only he could sell a million in a week.

Maybe this will help - Night scored a 9.0 on pfork.

He's one of the most talented songwriters my generation has. He's so good he can even make me like a disco song. Check his new video for "Sipping On The Sweet Nectar":
