ROCKAPELLA BY ASSOCIATION!

Yes folks, I'm calling it NOW - the latest craze in hipsterdom is Acapella groups. Boys ensembles, girls ensembles, bell choirs, and glee clubs. Finally, a musical genre that actually requires that you wear a unfiform in an inexplainably unironic but yet still ironic sort of way.

What evidence do I have of this latest craze sweeping Brooklyn Industry store playlists from Soho to Bushwck, well.. ... ... ...

Not all that much as it turns out.

However, nobody really writes great songs anymore - so I can't help but thinking since everyone's new songs seem to suck, maybe people should spend their time fucking with the old stuff. Publishers rejoice! Hey, it worked for like Girl Talk. And it certainly worked for former That Dog/Decemberists/Rentals/everyband that ever has played a show in California and needed a violinst, ubiquitous indie girl, Petra Haden when she headlined the Guilty By Association album release party last Friday night at Joe's Pub.

Petra led the way with her acapella girls club firmly in key and on "doo wop" through killer covers of Who hits, and sure, "God Only Know" too. She saved the best for last though - a timely cover of "Don't Stop Believing" - which is also her selection on the Guilty By Association covers compilation (a hott new comp. which features all your favorite hip music makers covering woe-fully unhip songs ex. Devendra covering Oasis, Will Oldham doing his best Spice Girls (!) and Luna making even Paula Abdul sound boring). I keed you Luna! But anyway, here's the acapella Haden track.

ACAPELLA LIVES ON 4EVA THEE FUTRUA IN VOIEEECE!$%@#~
