IT'S A RIOT!

Ra Ra Riot are the latest signing to BRM's oldest dearest label-friend, Barsuk Records. And may I just be the first to say: WHAT. A. SIGNING. RRR's upcoming debut, The Rhumb Line, is absolutely killer. A magnificent pop album that is so incredibly, infectiously accessible I can't see how this thing won't be received as sweet sweet manna for all our favorite music bloggers. Maybe my love for this band is all due to the fact that they hail from Syracuse and I almost went to school there so I harbor this subliminal fantasy that maybe perhaps had I indeed gone there I would've been a member of this band. Or not. Perhaps, I just really dig the record.

And there's good reason. For one, it's packed with all of that beautiful, liberal arts-invoking, baroque, sweeping string concerto shit that's basically the best thing about Vampire Weekend (who are not coincidentally good buddy's with RRR). Well, Ra Ra Riot break out the old sheet music too. Plus, they even have string players in the band. It's not just "a look." Moreover, the Riot know how to break out the hi-hat riding dance-pop tempos without sounding derivatively post punk a la the New York music scene 6 years ago. It's no wonder that they toured with the equally catchy (and dare I say totally under appreciated) band, The Cribs. And much like The Cribs, Ra Ra Riot just sound, dare I say it - fun. It's party music. Feel good music. Catchy as hell pop music. Exquisitely produced music that we would like you to place in your upcoming film/show/video game/vitamin water ad.

Here's "Each Year" off of The Rhumb Line out on Barsuk 8/18:
