NOAH AND THE PLAGIARIST WHALES!!!

Posted by Hartley On Jul 30, 2008

This is a post about plagiarizism. I'm gonna get all high school on everyone's ass here. But first - the facts. The very fine brits that make up the Wes Anderson-loving collective, Noah And The Whale, have been having a lot of licensing success of late with their song "5 Years Time." It's a track that's literally all up on my television screen every commercial break for a new car called, the Outlook. If for some outlandish reason you manage to live on earth and not see this advertisement, I tip my hat to you, and here it is for your assesment:

Now unfortunately for the Bank Robber, we don't work Noah And The Whale. We do work White Whale...but that's another story. Anyways, Noah and The Whale, are a new group - so new in fact I don't even think they have a record label (not that it matters anymore), so new in fact I don't think you can get their album in the States, so new in fact I think the median age for members of The Whale is like 17 - which is all just to say that Noah and The Whale definitely wasn't around back in the late early 00'z when the Boston-hailing indie-pop quartet, Bishop Allen, came out with this song:

Yes, Bishop Allen's "Another Wasted Night" and Noah And The Whale's "5 Years Time" are essentially the same song. The chords, the melody, the kiddish, breezy vibe. And I mean, it's all good. But really, Outlook people, if you get bored with the Noah jams - LOOK. NO. FURTHER.
