RICHARD SWIFT: The Next Amy Winehouse

It's the Suzuki Swift Sport!

Los Angeles songwriter, Richard Swift, is nothing if not prolific. However, unlike fellow peripatetic guitar hero Ryan Adams, Swift is pretty consistently awesome at whatever he shakes his fist at. Coming on the heels of two tin-pan alley pop albums, a Kraut-inspired sideproject, and a double album (!) of short choppy dub’d out rasta-blues instrumentals, Swift hits us with this ep titled, Ground Trouble Jaw (Secretly Canadian). This time Swift covers 3 genres in as many songs: 2 Mark Ronson-esq retro-soul jammers, 1 Doo Wop cut, and 2 more synth pop tracks. They all kick ass, but jeez if “Would You” and “Lady Luck” don’t make you wish Swift’s next project was a 50’s soul full-length. For serious, who knew Richard Swift was the next Amy Winehouse?

Here's "Lady Luck" off of the Ground Trouble Jaw ep out on Secretly Canadian:

Also, here's the new video from my current favorite BRM artist/new Modular Records signee, Ladyhawke. Holy smokes is this song catchy and going to burn up stereoz, ipods, cineplexes, macbooks, iphones, and your tv screens soon. Don't sleep.
