SHE DIDN'T WIN!

So the Golden Globes happened. And I'm taking it as proof of the existence of an actual God that the presentation managed to, for the most part, hold my attention at least half as much as my third period 11th grade Chemistry class. In fact, dare I say it, it was quite an enthralling 3 hours of non-HBO/non-Mad Men/non-Anthony Bourdain-related television. I learned a lot. I learned Miley Cyrus drives her mom's "hand-me-down Porche" (insert eyeroll here), I learned that Tina Fey is now a personal hero of mine for getting vengeance on "faceless" blog commenter's like Cougar-letter (whom she told to, and I quote, "suck it"), I learned that Jeremy Piven is "happy to just be here" after his ubiquitously near-fatal bout with mercury poisoning, and that Kate Winslett may "love" Leonardo Dicaprio more than her own husband, and that I think Rumour Willis looks better with darker (read: not bright red hair), and that that new Star Trek movie is going to be a complete bomb, and that I don't know who Zac Efron is but should probably figure that one out ASAP, and that Seth Rogen is seriously on some Kanye West-style "work out plan" (he must be running more than me), and that I seriously have a huge crush on the GORGEOUS Indian girl from Slumdog Millionaire (a film that barely 2 weeks ago nobody even knew existed, and one that my own mother thought was a documentary on Ghandi. No srsly.). Oh and also that just because a computer glitch prematurely lists you as a Golden Globe winner (as happened to Anne Hathaway last week for her "riveting" oh-so-deep-dark-and-tortured-chopped-haircut performance in the otherwise completely overrated Rachel Getting Married), it doesn't necessarily mean you'll be a winner afterall. You'll get yours in a few years Annie! You deserve one sure, but in the immortal words of one of my favorite Smiths songs: "you just haven't earned it yet baby." Do you still love cow prints and Lincoln Park, though? Say hi if you're ever in Soho, it's been ages

So what does this all have to do with the Bank Robber? In short, nothing. We had no one nominated for best song - last time we checked neither Bruce Springsteen nor Peter Gabriel were "indie," despite efforts from The Hold Steady and Vampire Weekend to prove the contrary. SPEAKING OF VAMPIRE WEEKEND - there's this band, Still Flyin'...they are going to take over in the '09. Very VW-y. Sorta. They have a completely amateuristic new behind-the-scenes video for their ironic (?) proto-ska anthem, "Forever Dudes". It made me smile watching it. And since there's not much else to share today, I will leave you with the video. I'll be talking more about Still Flyin' in the future. Be warned.
