Who doesn't love the Byrds? I mean, they were always an obvious signifier that if you were a punk, you actually liked OTHER kinds of jams (Husker Du "8 Miles High" anyone?)... If I'm ever in the middle of the already exhausted Byrds discussion, I like to throw down that "The Notorious Byrd Brothers" is my favorite Byrds album, and that I really have no need to hear "The Notorious Byrd Brothers" ever again (how's that for being the B-side guy?).

And the line in sand is really drawn when it comes to LATE period Byrds -- you know, starting with "Dr Byrd & Mr. Hyde."   I'll save that exciting answer for another round of shots, but for now the obvious winner of BEST LATE BYRDS jam is "Chestnut Mare."  Yeah, I know,  kind of obvious, but is that THE best song about a horse uh, EVER?

Well look out, coming in with a possible new contender is the Akron Family's "Set 'Em Free":

Sorry Michael Murphy, it might be time to put "Wildfire" out to pasture.

That's great! Clever post... But I think Michael Murphey's "Wildfire" still has some life left...
