LA HIPSTER ABOVE, NYC HIPSTER BELOW:

BRM blog image

Ah, the age old great debate, LA VS NYC, can't get enough of that one.........Music? Punk (NYC duh), Hardcore (LA), food? hmmm......I do think that NYC has learned how to make a damn tasty taco by now, but I'll give LA points on Sushi.....That leads to the current debate... whose hipsters are more annoying: Williamsburg vs Silverlake.....oh so similar, and oh so annoying, be it the beards, tattoos, latte art, tough call.....

So representing the East Coast we've got Bishop Allen.....new video "Shanghai" directed by hot new director Bob Byington and featuring a bunny.

From the West we've got Foreign Born's new video for "Winter Games" and it features  two uh "Crip Walkers" trading moves synonymous with the streets and night clubs of LA (or at least that's what the press release says).

Bunnies vs. Crip Walkers - you decide

Enjoy,

Hmmmm. it looks like a tie to me.

Pizza and chinese or mexican, sushi, thai and korean. (LA 2- NYC 1)

NYC has falafel cart. LA has bacon wrapped street dogs.

(NYC 2 - LA 2)

But, then LA has taco trucks...

(LA 3 - NYC 2)

NYC had the Ramones, LA had Black Flag and the Germs... but DC had Bad Brains and Minor Threat. So DC wins... but NYC gets a point for Bad Brains moving there after the Black Dots sessions...

(LA 3 - NYC 3)

Smog vs Winter. both lose a point.

(LA 2 - NYC 2)

Lakers or Knicks?

Sorry Big Apple.

(LA 3 - NYC 2)

The Hills vs The City - we all lose. but LA loses an additional point for Heidi and Spencer.

(LA 1 - NYC 1)

Not Paris.

(LA 0 - NYC 0)

I think that this is a draw. But I will say that L.A. beats NYC in one meaningful way: death is inevitable, but it comes at you much more slowly in Los Angeles, giving you more time to think of evasive maneuvers.

I watched the Hipsters of McKibbin Street fend their precious faux-dormitory from an invasion of neighborhood children. A team of Karate teachers finally scared off the whole group of projectile hurtling hooligans, and the streets were filled with cheers. They won the battle, but the war is far from over, I'm afraid.

Not sure where that places the NYC Hipsters, since I'm sure LA has plenty of the same. Just know that the young (sometimes yuppy) artists of Bushwick have informed the world that they ain't going anywhere any time soon.

Hey LA-do you have coffee trucks? we are killing with those!

Lyle, LA has Kogi trucks (3) - korean BBQ tacos, etc. And we now have a sushi truck too. But NY kills in pizza, chinese, cuban and deli. LA in mexican, burgers, street food. Lots of good new restaurants too. So i think food is a push. And that hipster is pretty much just William S. Burg aping the Williamsburg look from 3 years ago right? At least he's not wearing a man purse. But I think LA hipsters are more insufferable. So it's close but the weather gives LA a very slight edge. I'll take 'em both. Nice to see you at XX Merge. B
