Who are we to list our top ten of the year? (could somebody ask us already?  Pete will start with his top ten meals... I might go for ten best blog posts... god I hope this is one of them).  Well instead simply pointing to Pitchfork and having them do all the work for us, lets go even bigger shall we?  Lets start with a meaningless award, that will really have no bearing on what I do, but it is amusing (at least to me) to point out.  Ladies and Gents, I give you BRM and The Grammys!   Yup, in the 81st category for Best Compilation Soundtrack Album For Motion Picture, Television, or Other Visual Media nominee #4 "True Blood" which features Cleveland's finest Cobra Verde and their cover of "Play With Fire".  Not bad right?  Now where's my invite?  Will Cobra Verde get to play the Grammy's?  Why isn't my phone ringing?  Probably because I have a iPhone and it went straight to voice mail.  Plus, how did the Silversun Pickups get nominated for best new band?  Aren't they like older then Geronimo Jackson?  At least in new band years?  Jeeze... well here are Cobra Verde doing "Play With Fire" ala one of those goofy you tube album clips:

In other uh "mad props" news... lets turn to the amazing Carrie Brownstein and her favorite songs of the year! How about Lightning Dust's "Antonia Jane" (wowza!), as well as Bon Iver's "Blood Bank" and Telekinesis "Coast Of Carolina"!   Carrie does go on to say that she is disappointed that the Telekinesis song is in a Ford commercial, which actually kinda bummed my out because, well Carrie rules.  I was actually going to post the typical defense of licensing and how hard it is to survive being in a band these days, let alone it is a very short use of the song, but thankfully the mysterious Lauren B aka (Jhole) defends the placement, talks me down, and saved us all from such an ugly speil in this time of giving.  Well done Lauren B, a free bag of chips to you!

Here's Telekenises and the offending Ford commercial:

Not so bad right?

and here's Lightning Dust's Antonia Jane"

Have a great Hanukkah,

Lyle
