BRM HOT TUB?

Hmmm...  So I guess we are having our own version of "Hot Tub Time Machine" here today, with a minor mid-90's / early 2000's revival at BRM.  Boy am I excited to wear blue corduroy again!  Oh wait, I'm still wearing blue corduroy.  Anyway, the BRM is very happy to announce that a few of my favs from the wacky and hilarious 90's are kicking up uh, steam in the BRM Hot Tub (worst...  image...  ever...  Bleach for my imagination please.)

Jon Spencer Blues Explosion is back with a career retrospective out now on Shout! Factory (the only label founded solely to drive proof readers mad).  Yup, first up is the greatest hits, and then re-issues of the entire Blues Explosion catalog.  Hopefully this will all lead to JSBX doing some gigs, as they were always one of the best live bands around then...  and now?  Well the P'fork kids are already behind the revival, and that just is even more proof that that the Blues are, yup, still Number One:

Cornelius?  Yup, good old 1998...  The year of Monica Lewinsky, Jesse Ventura being elected Governor of Minnesota, and many years before I could type 1998 into Wikipedia to help remember what the heck happened back in 1998.  If you have never listened to "Fantasma" I think today is the day.  Dust off that mini-disc and crank it up, but while you hunt for that little device that changed portable music for the world we shall start with the video for "Star Fruit Surf Rider":

Back into the hot tub (shudder... more bleach... more bleach), lets move up to 2003 for Nada Surf's "Let Go" album...  Last night at the Bowery the band played the album top to bottom and it really brought me back (one pant size...).  Remember when bands did videos wearing leather jackets?  Those were the days:

The band is currently touring behind the oh so fun fan-club release of "If I Had A Hi-Fi". What was originally just suppose to be a fun and ez covers album has turned into a full on labor of love, featuring covers of Depeche Mode, Dwight Twilley, and even a older Spoon song.  So yeah, it is getting crowded in the BRM Hot Tub, and now that Britt from Spoon is in here I gotta bail.  To play me out here's Nada Surf's version of Spoon's  "The Agony Of Laffitte":

Enjoy,
Lyle
