Variety is the spice of licensing

Sometimes you read stuff and go "Huh?" and sometimes you read stuff and just go "D'oh!".  The latest piece on music licensing in Variety seems to put out there that using indie bands is a cheap alternative to using major label bands (or something like that).  That theory kinda goes to pot when you are talking about those wildly green newbies the Arcade Fire compared to, say... SmashMouth (times like this you just go "Uhg!").  Other "unknowns" from the piece include Army Navy, who were also prominently used in "Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist", as well as "Greek" and "Ten Things I Hate About You", but that might of been a difficult and taxing google for this writer dude, so alas, we present the article as it should of been written. Even if you've already seen the "article" you should re-read it here!

For your viewing pleasure,  first up the in-famous Shrek 3 trailer:

Also throwing in the link to another hot new band Death Cab for Cutie, who have a song in this trailer for "Beastly".  Obviously, SmashMouth would of worked better, but they just couldn't afford those major label stars.

Enjoy!
