4th of July - Bank Robbers of Baltimore

Posted by Douglas On Jul 2, 2010

As the unofficial capital of the United States clears out for the 4th of July holiday you may ask... Is there any better place to spend Independence Day than New York?  Eh... debatable.

New York has been pressing its luck this week with my commutes.  My trials began with a train that got stuck with only 2 cars on the platform so no doors could open for at least half an hour (thank you iPhone 4 for being new and still fun to play with).  Once that problem was solved I found myself on a train going the wrong direction with two horrible amateur lady mimes with hickeys.  This bit of New York flavor made everyone as uncomfortable as Michael Cera at a Ukrainian strip club... could you imagine what this morning would have been like had the mimes been on the stuck train?  That shit would have gone down like "Snakes On A Plane".

Ok... so yeah... I am getting out of town.  Being the history (channel) buff I am, I am spending America's birthday in our first capital, Philadelphia.  Rather than entice you with tales of soapbox derbies, Mummers, and a greased pole climb.  I suggest you not go back in time like me, rather you should get your own form US Capital to visit.  Can I suggest Baltimore? You can visit the Henry Fite House, capital of the United States for a whole 2 months.  Perhaps more importantly you can visit the stomping grounds to BRM favorites Double Dagger, Wye Oak, and Future Islands.  Although if you want to actually see one of these bands you will have to stay put and sweat the 4th out in New York... mimes, hickeys, delays, and all.

Future Islands will be playing a barbecue at Shea Stadium on the 4th!

Ok... I just realized.  Some of you might be in LA... or some of these other places in the country I have seen on American Pickers.  So if you can't party in a former US capital this weekend.  Here is your 2 month capital sampler!

Double Dagger - Sleeping In Wolf's Clothing

Wye Oak - My Neighbor

Future Islands - Long Flight
