Scary Is The New Oppressively Hot

Posted by Douglas On Aug 20, 2010

OK... What is going on?  Its August in New York, but when did scary become the new oppressively hot ?  It seems like the new trend is creeping me out.  Way to go world, I really appreciate this one.  When is the new trend going to be that my bagel shop still having fresh OJ when I get there?  Don't believe me?  Have a look at this!BRM blog image

This is the poster I saw at the Food Coop this morning.  So I grab my vegan muffin and tea and I'm off.  I have a little time on the subway to clear my head and for once there is not a pack of adolescent mimes... there is no lady carrying a dog with three ears.  I am thinking my day might turn out alright.  I'll just throw together a nice little blog post covering the goings on of a few BRM bands this week and call it a day.  Grab a few videos and a review, slap it together and go on break.  Two of our office favorites had to go and screw things up with the scary.

Yeasayer dropped a video this week that made me stop writing, run around the corner to Duane Reade, and buy a liter (BRM keeps a metric office) of Purel.  Thankfully the song is good and the lady is Veronica Mars.

Before I show you the next video, I have to show you a building I often pass in my neighborhood.

Ok... Now for the video from The Twilight Sad that ensures that I will never again go within 20 meters (told you so) of this place.  The song is from an EP that should be here soon... at least that part makes me happy... but the puppet with the stripper seen?  Just watch the video.

Not to be out done Pitchfork posted their 7.5 review of Sean Carery's new album on Jagjaguwar.  Sean plays with Bon Iver and he made a great album.  The only problem for me?  He is going by S.Carey!!!  Judge for yourself this is his song "Mothers".

Maybe the other Pitchfork BRM review will not be so scary... Land Of Talk.  Land Of Talk?  This is tweeking my mild social anxiety disorder.  Is this a land where you have to talk?  Have to make small talk?  Where you have to talk backwards like The Little Man From Another Place in Twin Peaks?  Or scariest of all... where someone walks back and forth in the office hall way on this bluetooth head set?  Where will this end... with producer of the Saw series of films going to be hired to relaunch The Wiggles?  Listen to Land Of Talk's "Quarry Hymns" while I go check IMDB.

I'm just gonna go with it.  Who wants to see Piranha 3D this weekend?
