Harry Potter and The Goblet Of Coffee

Posted by Douglas On Nov 19, 2010

In a world gone mad, one blog would have the courage to feature three artists so new or busy touring that they don't really have any videos up on YouTube.  In a week when half the office faked colds to catch an early screening of a movie about wizards, three bands would capture the imagination of an office... some time later that week... around lunchtime.

And me?  Right now I imagine that our buddy Ross is Harry Potter.  A SXSW court holding... roaming party conjuring... taco trash talking... and always kissable Harry Potter.  (Spoiler Alert)  So ok, Harry left Hogwarts to venture out on his own with a few scarf clad pals, so too Ross has left BRM favorites The Broken West.  Ross' new record under the name Apex Manor has all the free falling energy you would hope for... especially the track "Teenage Blood," which even drops a verse about a certian rooftop SXSW party.

Let's hope there is no teenage blood spilled in the last Harry Potter... but we both know there is.  ...oh you haven't read it? I'm the only nerd.  Fine... be that way and I won't introduce you to Sharon Van Etten next time she plays.  So to continue the somewhat troubling theme of this blog... Sharon as Hermionie.  Ok this one is easy.  I have listened to her new ep countless time...  she would make a fine Hermionie... because she is clearly smarter than me and better at her spells.  You can't write songs like "Love More" if you are... well... me.

John Darnielle... of the Mountain Goats and now also of Extra Lens.  You thought The Deathly Hallows had a high word count?  Check his new record out.  John a good Ron Weasley?  Um... well, I have an email into him.  I am trying to confirm if he too is afraid of spiders.  If he is... well there you have it.  John is a perfect Ron.  If no... well.  Um... maybe there are some outtakes from the last movie where Ron sings hyper articulate songs?  If only this footage existed. Ok... I'm gonna to check in with my lads over at Warner Bros to see if this can be confirmed.  In the mean time... here is the latest from Extra Lens, "Only Existing Footage."
