Guest Blog: Telekinesis is full of pop!

Ah, the special guest blog... our blog has been a regular Kanye single lately.  Who drops a guest verse this week?  Looks like two for two, Merge.  I'm looking at you Ernest Jenning!  (...no really I'm looking at those guys right now) We lucked out and have special guest star Michael Lerner from Telekinesis!  Michael, from his blog post below, loves a good song in a commercial, as well as BRM (awwww, we like you a lot too Michael (AKWARD) ). However, what we love (ok I said it) about Michael, besides his poptastic song writing, is that he can also currently be seen in a new commercial for Pop Tarts:

Yup, Michael loves Poptarts so much that they are uh, "The Bomb".

The great thing about licensing music sometimes, is seeing it with moving pictures, especially on a big screen. It can make you fall in with a song that you've never heard before, or with one that you are familiar with all over again.

Ford just recently starting running ads with a Jonsi song in it, and I think they are brilliant for choosing that song. It's a really well done ad, and it totally makes me want to run out and buy that record, something I haven't wanted to do from just hearing it on the radio.

And then there is the instrumental! I love the instrumental! It can totally change the whole vibe of a song, and work so so so well when put to a commercial or movie. Case in point this recent advert featuring Beck's 'Black Tambourine'. It's a song I remember hearing so well, but couldn't quite pinpoint when I listened in this commercial. loved the song, but had to jog my memory to remember it was Beck. I like when adverts make you think like that!



But for me, the recent prize for music and TV making sweet harmonious harmony with each other, comes from Bank Robber. This ad, played thru the Super Bowl. It's for the new Volkswagen Beetle, and it's kind of genius. The car itself isn't even seen, but the music fits SO SO SO well with it, that it really piques your interest. I've also never really listened to the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, and finding out that they covered that crazy Ram Jam song, it's pretty great.
 


So hooray licensing, hooray Bank Robber, and hooray music!
