This week BRM turns the, uh, reins over to super music supervisor, Gabe Hilfer!  Gabe, who works at Clear Songs, has worked on such projects as "The Wrestler," "How To Make It In America," and "50/50."  Gabe worked furiously on the new HBO show, "Luck," and we are happy to say the show has a very diverse selection of BRM jams.  Read all about it here:

Whatup BRM blog readers, it's your boy Gabe Hilfer here taking the reigns as guest-blogger for this edition of - "Hey Music Supervisor - thank you for using a bunch of our songs in your show!"

Coming up this Sunday is a sneak preview of HBO's new hour-long show Luck, starring Dustin Hoffman, Nick Nolte and many others.  The show is being brought to you by the great Michael Mann and David Milch whose combined pedigrees are significant enough that no enumeration of their credits should be necessary.  Along with the 4 talented composers who worked on the show, Luck has some great source music, both in context and out.

Luck follows several intersecting story lines, all converging on horse racing.  Musically, the show has a variety of juicy themes for which music was required - from the adrenaline-filled races themselves, to the soulful character introspections.  Two of Bank Robber's very own artists, Maserati and Oneida fit perfectly into the former, and gave some of our races the heart pounding tension we needed. The raw energy and pulsing rhythms mirror those of the horses who put it all on the line every time they run.

Maserati "No More Sages":

Oneida "The River":

Another genre of music that BRM loaded us up with was Soul.  In the vintage department, The Numero Group was gracious enough to loan us the tune "Am I A Good Man"  by Them Two, originally released in 1971, perfectly capturing the feeling at the end of episode 8.

On the more modern soul tip, we have Black Joe Lewis and The Honeybears, whose sound decorated a pivotal scene in a bar with its raw authenticity and earnest emotional honesty.

I leave you with this, Luck is a great show - so you better recognize, tune in, listen up and take note.  The nice people at Bank Robber Music have helped us out tremendously this season, and a big thank you goes to them for having such good music and usually being super easy to work with.

Tune in Sunday night following the season finale of Boardwalk Empire, for a sneak preview of the whole 1st episode!   Luck will be on every Sunday starting January 29th 2012, so go mark your calendars and program your TiVos.
