Laibach "Also Sprach Zarathustra (Mute)"
Fresh off of their South Korean tour, electro-metal pioneers Laibach are back with an album featuring the sometimes gorgeous, sometimes harrowing orchestral score they wrote for a stage production of Thus Spoke Zarathustra, based on the novel by Nitetzsche… Good lord! That is likely the strangest sentence I’ve ever written. This is really a surprising album from the longtime band. Also Sprach Zarathustra (Mute) is full of passages of outright beauty, which is not something Laibach is known for. It’s also super fun (“fun” and Laibach who knew?) hear the band stretching their musical wings this late in their career. It’s also full of eerie, techno-creep passages (which is far more close to their normal sound.) Until you listen to this record, you’re aren’t going to have much of a clue to it’s captivating sounds, so check out the foreboding “Das Nachtlied.”
