Last Blog Post Of The Year!

Well its almost the end of the year. How can I tell? Because I’m writing the last blog post of the 2017, that’s why! Also, I’m spending more money than I have on presents for people, my hands are constantly cold, and there are so many “best of” lists to get through that I’m currently making a “Best Of Best of 2017 List.”

Other things that signify the end of the year to me? Well for one, anxiously awaiting entries to our  “On The Shelf” photo contest! If you haven’t entered yet (and you haven’t, because, well… no one has) check out the rules here: There are prizes involved people! PRIZES!

Also, the new music video slate starts to thin out at the end of the year too, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t any new tunes to check out, because there sure are. So let’s dig in one last time in 2017!

With a visual aesthetic as unique as her voice, the new video for “Second Door” from Doe Paoro is sure to be a favorite. It’s like an early CD-Rom Encyclopedia came to life and turned to art.

Instead of trying to come up with something to say about the powerful new TRØN & DVD video, I’ll paraphrase DVD’s first verse from the song. “Submitted for approval, they’ve got nothing to lose. If resistance here is futile, at least they spoke the truth.”

There are very few things in this world that you can count on. The sun will come up tomorrow, Twitter will make you mad, and whatever Diane Coffee is brewing up next will be a delight. Case in point? The latest video from him for “Poor Man Dan.”

If you thought no one loved the showtime dancers on NY subways, you’d be wrong. White Hills loves them! So much so, that their new video for “Stop Mute Defeat” is in tribute to them. Take THAT every stone faced rider in the video trying to pretend they don’t notice what’s going on!

Get ready to fall in love with the new Jesse Marchant LP “Illusion of Love” due next January by checking out the first single “Frame for One.”

Let guitarist/racentour Glenn Jones get you in the Holiday Spirit with “A Different Kind Of Christmas Carol.”

Finally, if you’re looking for some last minute holiday ideas for the music lover on your list, you certainly can’t go wrong with Detroit’s proto-punk Death and their new vinyl box set from Drag City. Guaranteed to cheer up even the grumpiest members of your list!

Too naughty for presents, too nice for coal,

John

P.S. So after I wrote this blog post, I checked my email to find a message FILLED with entries for the #TedOnTheShelf contest. Too bad they’re from my dad…. but still! Check out his photoshop madness below.

At this point, I’d be willing to try anything.

Please note that the beach dwelling Teds are sunburnt.

“On the 6th day of Christmas, my true love gave to me… 6 Teds on toilets…”
