New-Tunes-O-Rama

Tina Fey. Reggie Jackson. Pope John Paul II. Me. What do we have in common? Well, May 18th is all of our birthdays. But who wants to write a blog post on their birthday? Not me (I can’t speak for Mr. October however). Which is why I am writing this today (which is your yesterday) because I took tomorrow (which is your today) off. So pardon me if anything crazy happens before tomorrow… err… today… oh well. Doesn’t matter what we call it, I’m sure something jaw-droopingly insane will happens. That’s like a daily occurrence these days. So enjoy the last blog post I ever wrote at the age I was on May 17th (nope, I will never come clean on my real age, that is for sure).

If you’ve been paying attention over the last few weeks, Grizzly Bear has been teasing their new album. In fact, it didn’t even have a name until yesterday (I’m now writing in your tense). Please enjoy the second track from the upcoming LP Painted Ruins, “Mourning Song.”

If you assume that the pairing of experimental musicians Dustin Wong and Takako Monekawa will also be experimental, you are very correct. If you also think the first video for their upcoming LP is gonna be experimental… well… that would be an understatement.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, I LOVE the music of Stereolab’s Laetitia Sadier. In fact, I’ve probably said “I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again” in reference to Laetitia before too. Some sounds come and go in my favor, but hers is not one of them. Her music is evergreen to my ears. Please enjoy the latest video from her newest project Laetitia Sadier Source Ensemble.

Palehound has a new record coming out next month from our pals at Polyvinyl. “If You Met Her” is a video made entirely by high school students at Real to Reel Filmschool! When I think back to the videos I made in high school… Ooofa… Way to go kids! The song, and the video, are great.

Finally, we have the neo-retro soul sounds of Soul Scratch on their new video for “Look How Far We’ve Come.” If you are looking for a horny jam (and by that, I mean a tune with some sick soul horns, get your mind out of the gutter!) then you have come to the right place. As youtube commentator Bestovitch said about this song “More amazing tunage from Colemine. Best label ever.” Party on Bestovitch, party on…

Happy Birthday to me,
