Joudy "Permanent Maintenance"
From Turn and Work: ”
Joudy is a three piece band of Venezuelan emigres who came together in San Cristobal in the 10’s, consisting of Frontman/guitarist Diego Ramirez, drummer Hulrich Navas, and bassist Carlos Rey, who now make Brooklyn their home. Their musical journey has covered several different landscapes: 2016’s Obertura was a thick, doctorate-level psychedelic/prog-rock text book whose shifting rock scenery could lead you back to Tool, King Crimson, or even Yes, or even Muse’s rock-opera aspirations; it sounded arena-rock ready, a kaleidoscope of epic proportions.
Then there was 2023’s Destroy All Monsters, which started to play with shorter pieces, but also felt like there was space to it, ambiance, as if they set their starship Enterprise towards the stoner rock/Sleep zone, creating more of a landscape than bending tracks in multiple directions like they did on their previous album. It built tension, there was a controlled exposition, all while kicking some serious ass.”
